Publikace Waltera Pammingera Konceptuální knižní design (2018) je dalším z titulů edice Katedra nakladatelství UMPRUM, jejichž výběr směřuje k dlouhodobé kultivaci oborové diskuse o typografii, grafickém designu a designu obecně. Text převzatý z edice Ästhetik des Buches německého nakladatelství Wallstein rozšiřuje škálu vydávaných publikací o podněty z německojazyčného kulturního prostoru. Na rozdíl od konvenčního líbivého designu, který sází na okamžitý optický požitek a spokojí se s pouhou názorností nebo euforizací obsahu, je pro Pammingera design tvůrčím, význam vytvářejícím aktem sdělení. Text sestává z deseti částí (Jízda kvadrigou / Zapomenutý prostor / Rozdělená dvoustrana / Pohyby obrazů / Časový tlak v obraze / Stavba o dvou hlasech / Autorská gesta / Výměna formulářů / Simultánní časopis / Neviditelné linie), ve kterých Pamminger poukazuje — na základě příkladů ze své praxe knižního designéra a kurátora — na otevřené možnosti grafického zpracování obsahu a vysvětluje své pojetí návrhu knihy od nápadu až po hotový výstup. Walter Pamminger (1954) absolvoval ve Vídni studium chemie. Grafickou úpravou knih se původně zabýval ve volném čase jako nadšený amatér. V současné době se věnuje grafické praxi, ale také publicistice, kurátorské činnosti a organizaci sympozií o knižním designu a vizuální kultuře. Byl oceněn národními i mezinárodními oborovými cenami v oblasti knižní kultury.
Walter Pamminger's publication Conceptual Book Design (2018) is another of the titles in the Katedra nakladatelství UMPRUM edition, the selection of which is aimed at the long-term cultivation of a professional discussion on typography, graphic design and design in general. The text taken from the Ästhetik des Buches edition of the German publishing house Wallstein expands the range of published publications with stimuli from the German-speaking cultural space. Unlike conventional pleasing design, which relies on immediate optical pleasure and is satisfied with the mere visuality or euphoria of the content, for Pamminger design is a creative, meaning-making act of communication. The text consists of ten parts (Riding a Quadriga / Forgotten Space / Divided Double Page / Image Movements / Time Pressure in the Image / Construction of Two Voices / Authorial Gestures / Exchange of Forms / Simultaneous Magazine / Invisible Lines), in which Pamminger points out — based on examples from his practice as a book designer and curator — the open possibilities of graphic processing of content and explains his concept of book design from idea to finished output. Walter Pamminger (1954) studied chemistry in Vienna. He originally worked as an enthusiastic amateur in his free time designing books. He is currently engaged in graphic design, journalism, curatorial work and the organisation of symposia on book design and visual culture. He has been awarded national and international industry awards in the field of book culture.
